High School Honor Choir

Between June 29 and July 1, auditioned high school students from across Kansas come together for a truly unique honor choir experience. Denver North High School choir director Katy Lushman will lead the honor choir with the festival’s artistic staff providing classes and workshops for the students. Last year’s program of Storms and Shipwrecks featured Baroque oratorio, Jonas with undergraduate soloists and a professional baroque orchestra, an a cappella arrangement of Florence + the Machine’s “Ship to Wreck,” a Vaughan Williams setting of text from Shakespeare’s Tempest, and the world premiere of “Psalm for Greensburg,” a piece written with texts from the National Weather Service bulletin from the night of the 2007 Greensburg, KS tornado. Watch our performance of “Psalm for Greensburg” at: https://youtu.be/VCM_Sj2ee0Q. The $100 registration fee covers a t-shirt and lunch for each of the three days. Daily transportation to Russell from both Salina and Hays is available. Current or incoming high school students may audition at http://www.adastramusicfestival.org/honorchoir
